The season’s up and running.
The season’s up and running in Val d’Isère.
What more could you ask for. Plenty of fresh white powder snow and even some sunny skies from time to time. The opening weekend was great. Saturday dawned bright and sunny and the slopes beckoned. Unfortunately Sunday saw gale force winds and white out conditions – just to remind us who was really the boss up here!
There are plenty of slopes open and the link to and from Tignes is also open. For the moment the lower runs are not skiable. There’s more snow forecast and the piste patrol are out working day and night to get those open soon.
Hey, there’s even speed dating on the Village chairlift next week!!!
The excitement is rising again in the resort, as there is to be World Cup ski racing next weekend on the Bellevarde Face. The World’s top skiers competing just before the Winter Olympics. It promises to be breathtaking – Will you be joining us?

Season approaching …
The season approaches….
Only one more week to go before the resort of Val d’Isère opens. Seven days and counting ….
More and more people are arriving in the resort as it awakes from it’s inter season slumber. Shop windows are being decorated and groups of both English and French seasonal workers arrive daily.
A few of the lower ski lifts are been run as pre-season testing takes place. There’s a huge “Criterium” advert up in the resort centre for the forthcoming World Cup racing in December; Apparently it’s the one race in France prior to the next Winter Olympics.
The upper runs of the Espace Killy are white and there’s snow forecast for the week to come.
The new leisure centre is having the finishing touches added and should be opening up late December. I’ve been to peak through the windows … three pools and a climbing wall are visible. One pool for swimmers, a leisure pool and a kiddie’s pool. All that’s missing is the water !!! The climbing wall looks great fun too! Everybody is waiting impatiently to try out this great new centre.
I’m starting to dust of my skis for next weekend. They’ve been in the cellar for months; I’ll get them waxed before next week. … See you on the slopes!
Let it snow …….
Don’t say I didn’t warn you … winter is finally here.
It’s been snowing since Monday and the village is like a picture postcard. I’m sure there must be some web-cams around the resort somewhere. Take a look for yourselves …
There must be about 10cm in the village of Val d’Isère and probably much more on the slopes. Last year’s snow boots have been dug out of the loft and the dust cleared from the sledges and the fun had begun! Snowmen are springing up everywhere …
There has been a rush on the sale of snow tyres and those who hadn’t already fitted them have had to resort to the old snow chains !
Snowfalls are forecast to continue for another two days, with a few days of better weather forecast before further snowfalls next week.
All this bodes well for the approaching winter season. My brand new ski boots are in the hall itching to be on the slopes but all we can do for now is sit back and watch the flakes fall …. !!!

Snow forecast
A beautiful week in Val d’Isère…. Autumn always suits the village. The upper peaks are capped with snow whilst the trees on the lower mountainsides slowly turn the most glorious colours. Yellow, red and orange splashes of colour are everywhere. The evergreens stay green however serving only to enhance the overall impression of an artist’s palate of colourful paints.
The weather has been glorious all week with mild temperatures for the time of year. However, things are forecast to change somewhat radically. Temperatures are to drop, the skies are forecast to cloud over and …. wait for it .. snow is forecast all next week. Now that’s music to our ears! With the resort opening for the winter season in four weeks time a « dump » of white stuff is just what we need.
I’ll keep you posted as soon as the flakes begin to fall … watch this space
